Mixed Media

Making A Friend

In this stop motion video, I showcase my creative process through an interactive story that highlights two of my previous works alongside the construction of a new character. This art form is one I created in elementary school by finding unique colors, patterns, and shapes in magazines, cutting them out and taping them together to create new works of art. Each new character or image is composed of multiple pieces and parts sourced from a wide variety of magazines. As mentioned in my Artist Statement, my process for this type of art is organic, and most of the time, I don’t have a specific idea of what I will create when I begin. However, for this particular piece, I knew that I wanted to make another mermaid.

Dragon Family

This is another selection of my mixed media magazine art. I have created a variety of mythical creatures, including dragons, and these are a few of my favorites.

Royal Peacock

This is a fun example of utilizing a wide range of patterns within a concentrated color scheme to create an animal that is also full of patterns.

Original Characters

Skimble

This is my original character, Skimble. Initially, she was drawn with pencil on paper. Then I transitioned to digital art to further develop the character (different art styles shown). Skimble is a magical, shape-shifting cat capable of taking the form of any creature. Her magic and soul are powered by her “spark,” represented by the yellow diamond on her forehead.
Skimble was originally born as a regular cat in 1886 London. However, after suffering life-threatening injuries, she was reborn as a spirit, gaining human-like consciousness and semi-immortality. Now a magical, shape-shifting cat spirit, Skimble is on a journey to find her place in the world through meaningful connections with humans.
Although she can transform into any creature, her unique color palette, markings, and defining features remain constant in every form. Inspired by her Victorian era origins, Skimble’s clothing reflects the traditional fashion of the time, with a few magical twists that set her apart.

Character Moodboard for Skimble

I created this moodboard for my original character Skimble, a shape shifting cat from Victorian London. I wanted to offer a glimpse into her character with a few simple photos and elements to give viewers a general idea of her color palette, personality, hobbies, and general aesthetic. These images were sourced from the internet.

Hexer

My character, Hexer, is a mischievous anthropomorphic cat with a few magical abilities and an affinity for getting into petty trouble. He can shift from his anthropomorphic form, to his human form, and even somewhere in between. Being a supernatural being, he has the ability to manipulate elements of magic to his will. But when he’s not out playing petty pranks or exchanging secret information, he enjoys crocheting within the comfort of his urban hideout. Hexer is still a work in process and this is an example of my concept art. I have not produced a final render of this character yet.
Created 2024; Pencil on paper and rough digital art; 3"x5" sketch and various digital

Jade

My original character Jade is an anthropomorphic tiger I created at age 10 as a persona and reflection of myself. She represents strength, individuality, and a sense of belonging. Jade embodies aspects of my physical appearance, including my blonde hair, blue eyes, and beauty mark, while serving as a creative outlet for self-expression and a connection to my inner world. Over the years, she has grown alongside me, inspiring me to push the boundaries of my creativity through character and world building, as well as exploring cosplay. Jade can be depicted in both her anthropomorphic form and human form. While she stands as her own character in some ways, she remains a direct reflection of me and how I see myself.

Cosplay Construction

Jade Tiger Fursuit Head

Originally created as a drawing, I decided to bring her to life through cosplay construction in 2024. I am in the final process of crafting a wearable costume tiger head. In the displayed image, you can see the different stages of my creative process, from the foam base of the head, drafting the sewing pattern onto her head, to my most recent development of stitching the fur. In the bottom right photo, you can see I have fully duct taped the foam base of the head. By doing this, I am able to draft the sewing pattern onto the tape. I include notes such as fur direction and color to later aid me while sewing the pieces. I have all of my fabric pieces cut out and am in the process of sewing them together, as seen in the images at the top. After I have completed this, the next step in my process will be securing the fur to the head. The fur should fit perfectly over the foam head base, like a glove fits a hand. My final step will be to carefully shave certain parts around the face, to ensure the designs are sharp and smooth.

Jade Cosplay Tiger Tail

I made this tiger tail to go with a cosplay I’m currently working on of my own original character, Jade. I am in the process of creating a partial fursuit of her, which will include a head, paws, and tail, as seen above. To create the tail, I started by sketching out a design on an index card. I then took the drawing and drafted the pattern up to scale on a large roll of paper. After cutting out my pattern pieces, I used them to trace and cut out my fabric (three colors were used). Next, I hand stitched each piece together to create my final shape. Finally, I stuffed the tail firm full of poly stuffing and added an elastic belt loop at the top for easy assembly.

Fursuit Tails

These are three examples of the types of cosplay tails that I make and sell on my Etsy shop, Skimble and Thimble. I not only sew the tails but also draft the sewing patterns to create my own unique designs. Each tail is attachable with an elastic belt loop sewn at the top, making them an easy-to-use accessory.

Traditional & Digital Art

Pumpkin Candle Still Life

As someone who hasn’t taken an art class since 6th grade, creating an observational drawing was definitely out of my comfort zone. While most of my creations come directly from my imagination, this process was notably different for me. To create a still life drawing, I wanted to choose something with an organic shape but still somewhat familiar. With this in mind, I ended up drawing a pumpkin candle resting on a lazy Susan on my kitchen table.

Brass Lamp on Antique Drop-leaf Table

As a second observational drawing, I decided to draw a brass lamp on an antique drop-leaf table in my living room. I drew this in the evening and at night so I could use the light from the lamp for shading.

Sketchbook Line Art

This is a page from my current sketchbook, featuring a variety of line art sketches. I used ink because it cannot be erased, allowing me to focus on precision. On the left page, I practiced anatomy, while on the right, I sketched various subjects that captured my interest.
Created 2024; Line art on paper; 9"x11"
This mushroom was created with both traditional, and digital art. The line art was originally done on sketchbook paper, to take advantage of the effects of traditional art such as line and texture. Once the line art was completed, I used the Sketchbook app to digitally color it, preserving the intricate hand drawn shapes and lines.

Opposites Attract

I participate annually in Art Fight, an art trading game, and these are my interpretation of another participants characters (Bri & Roxus). Their characters were digital art, so I drew them in a traditional format with my own styling.

Monotone

This self-portrait was taken before a Halloween party, inspired by my makeup and outfit that day. I decided to experiment with the lighting and hand placement on a whim, and that spontaneity led to one of my favorite self-portraits.

Paint Behind the Scenes

As someone who works on stage sets, I am familiar with the mess it takes to create a final product. One day as I was bringing trash out to the garbage bins by the loading dock, I happened to notice that the sun cast a perfect shadow on the concrete. The theater, more than 30 years old, is permanently stained with paint from every show in its past, creating a strangely beautiful work of art. I took this opportunity to capture a unique shot, taking advantage of both the sun’s positioning and the old, paint-splattered ground. After capturing the photo, I enhanced the saturation and adjusted the black point to create a starker contrast and emphasize the vibrancy of the colors.

Monotropism

This piece combines multiple elements and images, each with personal significance. The main background is a photo I took of my car’s windshield on a rainy day – the water created a unique pattern that I found inspiring. At the center is a self-portrait taken at a Halloween party, where I experimented with a new eyeliner style. The flowers are photographs of blooms I grew from seeds in my garden.
The inspiration for this piece struck during a rehearsal for a musical theatre showcase. With no internet access at the theatre, I was left with only the photos stored on my phone. Without a final product in mind, I began experimenting, and eventually, everything fell into place. All were color photos, but I changed them to black and white and adjusted contrast and saturation to enhance the effect.
I named the work Monotropism, a term that resonates with my experience as someone with ADHD. It captures the way I often hyper-focus on intricate details – a phenomenon tied to the hyperactive creativity of my mind. This piece reflects both my spontaneous creative process and a unique expression of how my mind works.

Silverbells 2025

This poster was created using an image I took of my cat Silverbells. I love the Japanese poster style and wanted to create something similar. My focus for this design was to showcase the simplicity and beauty of that style without distracting from the central image. The translation of the Japanese character is cat.

Golden Fall

This collage is made up entirely of photos I have taken while out in nature. I have a particular interest in mushrooms and wild flowers, and wanted to find a way to incorporate them both in a similar theme.
